Design And Build Quality

Unboxing the X-Pro, I was immediately struck by its sleek aesthetics and premium build. The stainless steel silver finish matches several other 1Zpresso models, creating a cohesive look across their lineup.

The dimensions and weight felt perfectly balanced in my hand. At 610g, it is 200 grams lighter than the JX-Pro. Its overall build and diameter are slightly smaller, giving it a compact feel without sacrificing quality. The materials add a touch of luxury: leather-like grip and frosted lid stand out against the rubber textures found on competitors.

Handling the X-Pro, I sensed attention to detail everywhere. The 40mm stainless steel heptagonal burrs, the soft grip on the bottom that prevents scratches, the leather-like texture that feels comfortable during extended grinding sessions. The catch cup screws on securely, unlike magnetic alternatives that can detach during use. Capacity sits at 25g.

External Collar Adjustment

The grind adjustment mechanism is one of the X-Pro's standout features. It uses an external upper collar that I found incredibly satisfying and straightforward. With around 320 settings available across five full rotations, and 60 clicks per rotation, you have plenty of range to work with.

Each click equals 12.5 microns of burr movement. This precision is ideal for espresso brewing while remaining practical for filter. The calibrated zero point and clear numbering system make dialing in easy, whether for Turkish grinds or French press.

One downside: no quick reference for tracking rotations. If you forget where you are in the dial, it is best to return to zero and start over. A minor inconvenience that does not overshadow the overall experience.

The heptagonal burrs take slightly longer than 48mm alternatives, but only by a few seconds. Even at fine espresso settings, the grinding action stays smooth. No beans getting caught or jammed.

Grind Performance

The X-Pro truly shines in grind performance. When grinding very fine, the 40mm heptagonal burrs provide an impressively even grind. All particle sizes appear consistent. The precise 12.5 micron adjustment between clicks offers control to find the sweet spot for espresso.

This consistency matters for espresso, where uniform particle size impacts extraction. The heptagonal burr design creates smooth grinding action, allowing fine grinds without interruption or jamming, even with light roasts.

For coarser grinds like French press or cold brew, the X-Pro continues to perform admirably. In my tests, the grind stayed uniform and free from fines that would over-extract and create bitterness.

Tasting Coffee From The X-Pro

The coffee tasting experience was a delightful exploration of flavor and complexity. The grinder produces cups with well-textured body, allowing the inherent characteristics of the coffee to shine. Light roasts with bright acidity, rich full-bodied dark roasts. The precise grind extracted flavors with clarity and balance.

Tasting notes came through pronounced and distinct. Fruity and floral notes in lighter roasts, deep chocolaty undertones in darker roasts. Clarity in the cup was remarkable. Each sip revealed layers of complexity without muddling flavors. Acidity stayed well-controlled, providing pleasant brightness without overpowering other elements.

Here is the surprising part: in my blind taste tests, the X-Pro gave a slightly better flavor profile for filter coffee than both the JX-Pro and even the Comandante C40. The differences were small but noticeable. For pour-over enthusiasts, this matters.

The espresso had a creamy, rich texture with clean, sweet, and juicy taste. Filter coffee was similarly bright and complex. If pour-over is your primary method, the X-Pro might be the better choice over its siblings.
