Grind Adjustment Mechanism

The grind adjustment on the JX-Pro is one of its standout features. Located inside the bean hopper at the top of the grinder, this placement makes adjustments convenient. No struggling to hold the lid while making changes. No fumbling with the catch cup.

Each click moves the burrs by 12.5 microns. With 40 clicks per rotation and 10 numbers per turn, tracking your settings is straightforward. A dot indicator on the dial shows your current position clearly. The grinder can also be calibrated to read zero at its finest setting, keeping everything consistent over time.

This precision makes the JX-Pro excellent for dialing in espresso. Small, incremental changes let you hit the sweet spot without wasting beans. But unlike espresso-only grinders, the JX-Pro transitions smoothly to coarser settings. Moving from Turkish to French press takes about five rotations. That is manageable compared to grinders with finer per-click adjustments.

Design And Build Quality

The JX-Pro makes a strong first impression. High quality manufacturing and durable construction are evident throughout. The main body features an anti-slip rubber cover that works well during use. You never feel like the grinder might slip while grinding heavier doses.

At 18cm tall and 5.7cm in diameter, it fits comfortably in hand. The 780g weight feels substantial without being heavy. The flared hopper up top holds 35g of beans with minimal bounce-out when loading. The aluminum alloy grounds catcher screws on flush and holds the same 35g capacity.

One minor gripe: the catcher is not a perfect fit for 58mm portafilters. Transferring grounds requires some care to avoid mess. But it does an adequate job with practice. The dual top and bottom ball bearings inside the body keep the burrs aligned. The enclosed drive shaft eliminates wobbles, a common problem with cheaper hand grinders.

Grinding Performance Across Methods

The 48mm steel conical burrs handle everything we threw at them. Using 1Zpresso's reference guide as a starting point, we tested Turkish, espresso, moka pot, Aeropress, pour-over, and French press. Performance stayed consistent regardless of grind size.

Turkish grind at one full rotation took some initial effort but produced an incredibly fine powder. Espresso dialed in around setting 15 with particles finer and more uniform than many electric burr grinders. The moka pot sweet spot landed at two rotations.

Moving coarser, Aeropress and pour-over settings around three rotations delivered clean extraction. French press at four and a half rotations gave a proper coarse grind. Cold brew at five rotations rounded out the range. Throughout testing, the JX-Pro performed reliably without jamming or burr alignment issues.

Cleaning And Maintenance

Keeping the JX-Pro in top shape is straightforward. The design allows easy disassembly for thorough cleaning. Start by unscrewing the adjustment wheel from the top, followed by the thumb nut. The drive shaft with inner burrs slides out. You can then unscrew and remove the outer burr set.

This access lets you clean inside the body properly. The included brush works well for removing residual grounds from the burrs and chamber. A few minutes of attention after each use, especially when switching bean types or roast levels, keeps the grinder performing at its best.

We have used the JX-Pro at home, camping, and backpacking over the past year. Regular cleaning has kept it running smoothly the entire time. The robust construction handles travel without issue. It has earned a permanent spot in our gear rotation.

The Bottom Line

"The JX-Pro delivers premium grind quality at a price point that makes electric grinders look overpriced. It handles every brewing method without compromise. If you can only own one grinder, this is the one to get."
